What are the initial steps in starting therapy?

The first step to starting therapy is an initial phone call. I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to discuss your reasons for getting into therapy along with your goals and what you are looking to accomplish in therapy. We also discuss scheduling to ensure that I have an appointment time that works for you, and we discuss my fee.

What are your expectations of clients?

Therapy requires a commitment which means protecting your appointment time, so you’ll be available to come to therapy regularly. Therapy works best when there is consistency. If there are a lot of disruptions, with frequent cancelations, then the therapy is compromised. Therapy works best with clients who can protect their appointment time to attend regular sessions.

How often do we meet?

Generally, I meet clients once a week. For people in crisis, we may need to meet more than that.

What are your fees?

My fees are competitive with other therapists in the area. I am not on any insurance panels at this time. I have some availability for sliding scale. If you have a PPO, your insurance may cover psychotherapy; please check with insurance company to find out what their policy is in regards to out of network therapists.

How long will I need to be in therapy?

Therapy can last anywhere between a few months to a number of years. It depends on the issues that you wish to address and heal. For clients who have a history of trauma, longer term therapy is usually best.
